“Best On The Block” Round 2 Recap


This past Saturday, we were participating in the ‘Best On The Block” Tattoo Artist Contest. Brought to you by Cycle City Hawaii, Defend Hawaii, Full Throttle Tattoo & the 2015 Pacific Ink & Art Expo. The event took place @ Cycle City Hawaii from 2-7.SONY DSC SONY DSC


For this contest, we had 5 (instead of 4) extremely talented Tattoo Artist compete against time and each other for a chance to win $1000 in cash & prizes, a Defend Hawaii design contract plus a guaranteed spot in the PIAE Tattoo Artist Contest being held on August 8th.

The Best On The Block event hosted by Cycle City Hawaii is more than just a Tattoo event. There were special give aways, free food brought to you by Doraku, music and motorcycles. What can get better then that? Mahalo to everyone who showed up to support Round 2 of the Best On The Block.



Defend Hawaii had to pick 2 of the 5 artists to compete in Round 2. Our 2 artists were Jason Liu of Rock Star Tattoo in Waikiki & Richie Lucero of Black Cat Tattoo. Mahalo to both Jason and Richie for representing Defend Hawaii and your shops this past weekend.


“My name is Richie Lucero. I was born and raised in Hawaii, I’ve been doing art all my life and tattooing for 11 years. I am the owner of black cat tattoo studio and art gallery in downtown Honolulu.”


“Jason Liu is a 44 year old art graduate from China and a talented, new and rising tattoo artist at Rock Star Tattoo in Waikiki! He’s been in the art industry for over 15 years with specialties  in oil and acrylic paintings.  For the past two years he’s funneled that natural talent and experience into the art of tattooing. His tattooing specialities include classical Asian, water color, realism and black/grey tattoos.”

Once the artist were all complete with their pieces the judges tallied up their scores to bring us the Winner for this past weekends contest. Drum roll please……..

Round 3 for the ‘Best On The Block” Tattoo Artist contest will be held on August 1st @ Cycle City Hawaii. This time the category will be “Polynesian” specialized tattoos. DESTINY:Na Koa X is going down Saturday, August 1st at Hawaii’s favorite fight venue, the Blaisdell Arena.  Doors open 6pm, undercard actions begins at 6:30pm.

Another full night of action in what will be the most action packed card of the year with 5 titles on the line and 20 + fights lined up for you fight fans. In the main event, veteran and island favorite from the Super Brawl days Tyson Nam returns to Hawaii to face the undefeated local rising star Arnold Berdon in a Bantamweight Title showdown.  Both fighters are known for their stand up game and are never in a boring fight, so expect this to be fast paced and not go the distance.

In the co-main, a rematch has all of Hawaii fight fans excited as veteran state champ Chris Cisneros of Hilo goes to war for the 2nd time vs Maki Pitolo for our vacant Welterweight World Title.  Don’t miss this fight card fight fans.  See you all at the arena Aug. 1st.

Hawaii Rugby League – (Ticket & Pre-Sale Shirt Info)

Grand Pacific Events in conjunction with ESPN 1420 AM is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Ohana Cup Rugby League Festival.

Called The LAVALAVA Festival, it will take place at Aloha Stadium on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

The Pacific Rugby League Test Match will feature international rugby league powerhouse Mate Ma’a Tonga versus arch rival Toa Samoa.
The gates at Aloha Stadium open at 2 p.m. with a Hawaii Youth Rugby game to start at 3:30 p.m. followed by an adult league all-star matchup featuring the City Chiefs vs. Country Kings at 4:45 p.m.

There will also be entertainment, food vendors and a meet and greet with the players all leading up to the 7:30 p.m. start of Mate Ma’a Tonga vs. Toa Samoa game.

Oahu residents – A “Will-Call” will be available at Aloha Stadium at the event, all those who choose to pick-up their tees will be immediately refunded their shipping cost. However, you are more than gladly allowed to choose for us to ship to you still.

Off-Oahu residents – Your product(s) will be delivered for shipping out of Oahu on Thursday, July 15th. If there are any changes, you will be notified by email as soon as such changes are confirmed.
