Bellator has signed two of its notable fighters to contract extensions. One of those fighters is none other than Punahou Alumni Ilima Macfarlane.
Macfarlane (4-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), meanwhile, is just looking to continue to get her career off the ground. She’s off to a strong start, winning her first four pro bouts, three by stoppage. She most recently appeared at Bellator 157 in June, where she earned a second-round submission of Rebecca Ruth.
Get to know Ilima-Lei more with this mini-documentary below presented by “I AM A FIGHTER”.
X-1 World Events returned its unique brand of mixed martial arts events to the Blaisdell Arena with a bang on Saturday night. The last three fights of the evening lasted a combined total of three minutes and four seconds, with all three bouts ending in a knockout. Veteran mixed martial artist and UFC Hall of Famer, Frank Trigg, served as referee in the final brief and action packed fights that concluded a night of MMA excitement and energy long missing in Honolulu.
Saturday night’s X1 #44 marked the first time the promotion had been back to the Blaisdell since 2011 when Max Holloway won the X-1 lightweight championship. The UFC’s Max Holloway is currently riding a nine fight win streak in the Octagon and was at the Blaidell to take in fights, as were the UFC’s Yancy Medeiros and Louis Smolka. Smolka is scheduled for next week’s UFC Fight Night 96 event in Portland, Oregon.
Hawaii MMA fans were treated to hard hitting MMA action alongside an indoor sports festival with food booths, vendors and beer garden all on the arena floor – a first of its kind for MMA in Hawaii.
With UFC Fight Night 96 coming up, Sergio Pettis drops out just one week before his match against no. 9 ranked Hawaii’s Local Boy, Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka for the flyweight bout.
#15 Sergio Pettis (14-2 overall) who was said to face #9 (11-1) Louis Smolka has dropped out of next week’s main fight card due to a “minor injury” according to Pettis trainer, Duke Roufus. It is still to be announced who will face Smolka for the flyweight bout. But we all know this. Da Last Samurai is ready for war with anybody. The Shogun will prevail.
Our hearts are heavy as we remember Ernie Cruz Jr., one-half of the legendary Ka’au Crater Boys.
The beloved musician ran into trouble at Sandy Beach on Tuesday. Ocean Safety officials said he was found floating about 125 yards offshore around 230 p.m. A surfer helped lifeguards bring him into shore. He was treated and taken to the hospital where he later died.
I grew up listening to Ka’au Crater Boys with my Papa. This is such sudden and unfortunate news. My heart goes out to the Cruz Ohana & to anyone who held Ernie dear to them. Whether it was through ohana or music, he has made a tremendous impact in Hawai’i.
Now we are left with only memories and recordings. I wish the best for all those who knew Ernie. May his legacy live on. Rest in paradise Ernie Cruz Jr.
