Hawaiian Monk Seal Pup Live Stream

The birth of a monk seal pup on a popular Waikiki beach last month is providing a rare opportunity for scientists as well as the public to watch mom and baby in the early weeks of the pup’s life.

Civil Beat has set up a webcam overlooking the endangered seals’ temporary home on Kaimana Beach and will be livestreaming the scene during daylight hours for the next few weeks.

Honolulu Civil Beat is partnering with the nonprofit Hawaii Marine Mammal Alliance and its Hawaii Marine Animal Response Team (HMAR) to accept donations from individuals who want to support the growth of Civil Beat’s environmental journalism and HMAR’s efforts to protect Hawaii’s most vulnerable marine species. Transactions made by clicking the ‘donate’ button on the Facebook livestream will go directly to Civil Beat. Once the livestream is finished, Civil Beat will donate 50% of proceeds to HMAR, in addition to providing a detailed accounting of all transactions.
