Welcome back to another segment of #SupportLocalAthletes. This week we’re covering Hawaii’s athlete of the year. The St. Louis graduate, the Heisman Winner holding it down for the Oregon Ducks & representing for all of the 808, Marcus Mariota. Im sure if your an 808 resident or have any love for anything or anyone coming from Hawaii, Marcus’ name has been brought up in the conversation. And if by any chance you don’t have a clue who Marcus is, I suggest you do some homework. Not only is Marcus an amazing player on the field, he showcases star qualities & aloha off the field.
Last week Wednesday, Marcus announced that he will officially be turning pro and entering the draft for next years NFL season. Here is an official statement made by Mariota directed towards his university.
“My four years at the University of Oregon have been an awesome experience. I cannot thank Coach (Chip) Kelly, Coach (Mark) Helfrich, Coach (Scott) Frost, the rest of the Oregon coaches and the support staff enough for molding me as a person, player and student-athlete,” he said.
Mariota went 36-5 as a three-year starter for the Ducks. He set an NCAA passing record by passing for a touchdown in all 41 career starts, and he became the first player in Pac-12 history to account for 5,000 yards of total offense in a single season.
Lets give it up for this local boy. Lets give it up for all the local boys doing big things, showcasing aloha and representing for the 808! Defend Hawaii is proud of you Marcus, keep striving for greatness and keep up the aloha spirit. We are excited to see whats to come for your future. And to everyone out there, continue to Defend Hawaii & always SUPPORT OUR LOCAL ATHLETES!
